The album was released on Quigley Records, FSOL's short-lived stem of Virgin.

After signing to Virgin, Dougans and Cobain decided to release some music they'd been working on at the same time as "Lifeforms", under their newly formed Amorphous Androgynous name. More Buggy G. Riphead artwork, for the first time including photographs and sophisticated graphic textures.

Named in displaced reference to a form of speed popular with late-night studio hounds, Ephidrina is probably the nearest the group have come to an even compromise between their ambient and dance pretensions, trading equally between lush, contemplative textures and upbeat, simplistic rhythmic structures.
