All of disc 1 and the first two tracks of disc 2 come from the Summer 1989 Reel Time Studios session. From spfc.org: "These sessions spawned both the second demo tape Moon, and what is known as the Gish Basement Tape, a promotional cassette used for bookings and label solicitation in 1989 and 1990. A few others were officially released elsewhere: I Am One and Not Worth Asking appeared on the Limited Potential 7"; Bye June was officially released on the Lull EP and was also included on Moon; Daughter was released on the Reflex Magazine flexi-disc and also included on Moon. Two versions of Honeyspider were recorded: a distorted, rocking version was released on the Tristessa 12" and a quieter, clean-toned version was put on Moon, and later on the Pisces Iscariot bonus 7". Just as well, two unreleased versions of Rhinoceros were recorded: an odd version with an organ solo played by Mark Ignoffo was put on Moon, and a version closer to the Gish album version was put on the Gish Basement Tape." This version also has an edited version of Honeyspider electric, with the feedback ending omitted, and a version of Daughter with an additional minute and a half of feedback. Tracks 22 - 32 from disc 2 come from the Fall 89 session. To again quote spfc: "This session was booked to record live-only favorites such as Razor and I Am My End. Unfortunately Jimmy didn't show up and, since the studio time was prepaid, it morphed into an acoustic session. This was noted as a sloppy session with many false starts. D'Arcy was present but did not perform." The completed takes of Vanilla and Fat Man Blues appeared on Mashed Potatoes. I am One Part II and Waiting came from... somewhere, as they have been in wide circulation for quite some time but in horrid quality. Needless to say, this copy of it is near- perfect. :) BONUS TRACKS: three bonus tracks were tacked to the end of disc 2 for those who participated in the CD tree of this material. Time has Come Today is from Last Exit, 11-20-88 Chicago. Jennifer Ever is the same version found already in circulation, but with only a single guitar track (no drums, etc). Nothing + Everything comes from an unknown date and venue in 1989. DIGITAL CORRECTIONS: There have been numerous fan-made "remasters" of this material since it first went into circulation. I have chosen to instead leave the songs as-is, with two exceptions: a loud burst of static about 53 seconds into East (alt) has been removed; about eight seconds of Rhinoceros' organ solo looped like a broken record and has also been removed. Flaws like these aren't surprising, as the source was a 12-year-old DAT.
